Welcome to the Assessment Department

We are dedicated to supporting all students, from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 12th grade, in their academic journey. Our comprehensive assessment program includes universal screening measures, the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), the Physical Fitness Test (PFT), and so much more.

Our Approach to Assessment

Our goal is to use assessments not just to measure learning, but to enhance it. We believe that assessments should be tools for growth, helping students to recognize their strengths and areas for improvement. Here's how we incorporate different assessments:

  • Universal Screening Measures: These are assessments given to all students to identify those who may need additional support. They help us ensure that no student falls through the cracks and that all students receive the instruction they need to succeed.

  • CAASPP: The CAASPP system helps us measure student progress in English language arts/literacy, mathematics, and science. It provides valuable information about how well our students are meeting state standards and helps guide instruction.

  • ELPAC: For our English learners, the ELPAC is an essential tool. It assesses English language proficiency and helps ensure that students receive the appropriate support to develop their English skills. It is also one criteria used for reclassification of English learners.

  • PFT: The Physical Fitness Test is administered to students in grades 5, 7, and 9. It assesses physical health and helps promote the importance of physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Supporting Student Success

We understand that assessments can sometimes be challenging for students and families. That's why we provide resources and support to help everyone prepare and succeed:

  • Preparation Resources: Tips and practice materials to help students feel confident and ready for their assessments.
  • Understanding Results: Clear explanations of what assessment results mean and how they are used to support learning.
  • Individualized Support: Additional help for students who need it, based on assessment results.

A Collaborative Effort

Assessment is a team effort involving students, families, teachers, and administrators. We encourage open communication and collaboration to ensure that assessments are a positive and productive part of the educational experience.

Our assessment program is designed to support every student's academic journey. By using a variety of assessments, we can provide a comprehensive picture of student learning and ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed.
